  • Good Morning it is July 16, 2013 Hot already in 70’s in the great state of Ohio!!!

Wow what great thoughts I had as I drove thru Pennsylvania yesterday – looked up this photo:

The host of our tribes bar-b-q on Sunday, I am sure 4got about my addiction – or thought I was on a 7 step program – Eat seven different flavors of Icecream at each setting – and I did!  Don’t U all think she did a great job. Oops great role!

Hey gotta get on the road Pa had some of the greatest clouds I ever saw. – think I will focus clods that look like Islands, people , and yes ducks –  saw many of those items yesterday – the heading photo is just a part of a photo I had on the iPad – yesterday I used my camera and those are not available to the I pad till I get home.eyes will c u ltr!!!

  • Say I, good morning – but it is yet evening – but if morning it will be July 14, 2013

Miss G is going yet again 2 dentist 2moro morning, so I will think about doing some of this blog this evening. 2 moro I will be in dentist waiting room — may have time to finish it then.

Sitting here in waiting room I had 3 thoughts I will pass along via phots:

    1. What a difference a day makes.

    2. Blue dog art and Dyna dog art.

    3. Tribal leadership.

    1.    As seen on Friday – just starting to birth!!

    1.   As seen on Saturday – in 1 day a beautiful rose emerged!!!

    2.   The famous “Blue Dog” – if u do not know of it, look it up on Google. I use Google as generic for search engine–OK u non-Google fans!

    2.   The Famous “Dyna Dog” If u do not know of Dyna the obedience, agility, therapy,  dead fish eating, canoe riding dog – just e-mail me & I will tell u more

    3.   In the concept of tribal leadership – leadership is a fun responsibility — not a job – which is different then corporate America leadership – a younger person often gets a role because his mother or father and grandparent had that role before them.  At a family gathering yesterday, I saw, not corporate leadership, but the live practice of our family tribe type of leadership – 4 example, the grilling role belonged to his dad – and no one suggested that he not have the role today – in fact I was told, if he could not make the gathering – the date of gathering would have to be changed.  Pride of a resonsibility well done and a lot of family happiness.  Oh forgot to mention that since the homestead is no longer in the family – the youngest daughter inherited the role of hosting the gathering.  Not because of central location – but just because it is her inherited role!

anm14bWhat a ride Grandma has had with her tooth – but the word from dentist today is – they think they won -that means the tooth is saved if all goes well for next week and after Yoga camp!!!

  • Good Morning – it is Friday July 12, 2013 – yesterday=people watch, 2day=different way to people watch

This week we have had the great gift of staying in a home while the owners were off doing what I call a family summer camp. I will tell u of that fantastic opportunity they have created 4 themselves and about some of my experiences visiting them at their summer camp – some smart experiences, some very dumb experiences, but all extremely fun experiences.

But back here at base camp! I toured this home 4 the sole purpose of watching the people that lived here when not at summer camp. Say u-how can u do that when they are away at summer camp.  By looking at the decor of the home  I did that, so let’s see what we find. So, pleas go on a people watching tour with me.

But, first promise to tour u’r own home after u c my blog and see what a “people watcher” like me would see of U.

They love outdoors – c the b’fast table!

They love gardening – c b’fast deck with potted plants

They love their children – photos everywhere of them

They love to support their children – thing children have done hanging everywhere

They help children learn religion – a piece of children art work hanging
They love animals and books on raising children, gardening, animals
They love flowers and animals – the whole home is decorated with them.  I found Approx 50 animal/plant decor items throughout the house – of course I did not venture into private bedrooms – bet, they have same decor!
They really love animals – everywhere – we get 2 care 4 some – there is cat, chinchilla, fish bowl,,dog dishes, and more!

They have some gardening success – c this pretty rose by the b’fast table

I know what I c when I people watched these folks – sure hope u have as nice of thoughts of this home and the folks who create the home environment as I do.

know, people watching is fun! Now as I asked u to do – go forth and  “people watch” your own home.

flying thingI have no idea why I included this cloud photo – still waiting for Grandma tooth 2 get better – so, think I will try 2 do more sky watching – maybe storm approach this pm – while she in dentist chair! Sure hope I do not loose all this blog 2 the iPad mind U know it has a mind of it’s own!!!

  • Good Morning – from cloudy NY/NJ on July 11, 2013 “Let’s People Watch”

People watching from my Island home

Did update on my Daughter’s PC — I must better learn ipad app — but I am finished working on this posting for today!
You know I have a lot of problem understanding why one would choose to spend time in the city when this lake view is possible.  But I found at least one reason. People watching is really fun. So I will not write too much – I will just sit and do some people watching with U.

Sitting on a sidewalk bistro – can I really just sit and watch for hours?

    Grandma starts to people watch
From mall bistro – no privacy issue here
Some business shoes and some sandals

    The new Business lunch pose

Another new business lunch - Walk, eat energy bar, talk on iphone or spend an hour doing yoga and meditation.
Another new business lunch – Walk, eat energy bar, talk on iphone or spend an hour doing yoga and meditation.
From mall bistro – all kinds of styles in one eye full
Maybe a student and ride u’r bike
For sure wear pink while doing business in the “ROSE CITY”
Or do business in a style originally designed by a very well known designer for a friend with 4 legs.

every dayThanks 4 sitting with me. I will close by lifting my eyes upward to see if I can find people in the clouds — nope only a DUCK- bye 4 nowa duck

  • hey 2 U all & a fine G M 2 U on this July 9, 2013.

    1.  Hope U can c this strange plant I found at a Michigan rest area. I hope U can enlarge it on u’r screen them PLEASE tell me what it is.  Thanks

    2.  Well, here I am in NY/NJ. Grandma to know if tooth has any complex process require – dentist thinks it will be smooth sailing. If that is the case, she goes to see grandkids summer camp show and I head to see Perla and friends.  Hay for horses was to happen this week but that process got complicated. I get 2 help with hay making and storage next week. Hope 2 get many photos for u.

Really having tough time with this iPad but hope u can figure out how 2 read this blog.

    3. Did lots of people watching yesterday – lots of different clothing styles here in the big city – seems some are fads, some are ethnic, some are religion, some are weird I think just 2 tell the world “I am special – unique”, and some to say I have created a piece of art work which I can wear and see each time I pass a mirror. Maybe I will try to post some photos of these but due to privacy of folks I do not like 2 do that. Do you ever wear special styles.

Maybe you could tell me about it and tell me why you wear it THANKS.  For example, sometimes I wear a cowboy hat and no one else does.  Why, mabe it is because folks I meet say “boy, I really love your hat” and I am sure I would like that.

    And Perla likes it too!

    4. I am so happy 2 know this young lady. In the parade she handled a very nervous horse with such confidence and skill, my helmet and cowboy hat off to her – and I must say her family and my friends on the horse farm really enjoy her as well as respect her for her horsemanship

    5. Cart never loose a ball 2But I remember golf and retrieving poorly hit balls in Florida is fun also – so till the fall! Florida friends  keep Florida beautiful!!

  • Good morning – it July 2, 2013 — Today’s topics 1. Horse flies, 2.Trail ride warm-up, 3. Flags, 4. Grandpa in 1903.

In three days I need to be ready to travel to New York City — Will be there a while. Grandma having tooth work done — Schedule there uncertain until at least first dentist look- see.  So have much to do to shut this place down and ride Perla in 4th of July parade.  So, if I do not post each day u know why — well, I will try to use ipad to do so even while travel.

    Horse Fly on Peral's back
    Horse Fly on Peral’s back

    1. Yesterday I showed you that we protected our horses from horse flies — they zing around and that makes it difficult to photo them  — but I finally photographed one to show you!

    Trail warm-up
    Trail warm-up

    2. Trail ride warm-up.  Every trip out — wether we go north, south, east, or west we do a warm up — just like any athletic –like  baseball pitchers like Charlie,  Tennis greats like Patrick, Golf folks like Grandma, — or what ever — why do you not send me a photo of your warming-up for your sport — what ever it may be and I will post it  so may see others.

Our horse trail ride warm up consists of doing figure 8, 9, etc around these bushes to get us and the horses into good communicating form.  turn left, turn right , whow — stop, back up, run into branches without jumping — etc.

I assume this cabin (home) was built in 1918

You guys out there . tell me about this flag.
You guys out there . tell me about this flag.

    3. Here is a flag for you to study — on our trail ride we came upon a cabin with 1918 carved in the logs — and a flag hanging on it. Is this today’s flag? — was it the 1918 flag? Study it and post your answers in the comment bubble.  THANKS!

    4. Grandpa never wrote anything after July 2 — Guess summers got very busy — or boring? but here excerpts from June 27-July 2, 1903:

June 27- 30 “Plowed in afternoon. broke plow beam. went to Hooversville for pow beam, but did not get any. Rained in forenoon, Bought old plow from Frank Shaffer. Plowed after dinner. Finished plowing for buckwheat.”

July 1-2 “Hauled load of old iron from shade Furnace to Hooversville. Grandpa Ripple and Stella here today.  Very warm Thundered all afternoon — Harrowed, Plowed corn, potatoes, and truck and hauled stones and wood.”

On way back from Perla ride saw a skydiver -- Guess he jumped out of plane so he could celebrate the 4th on Drummond!

  • Good Morning — It is July 1, 2013 – One-Half a year spent — Sure hope you enjoyed your purchase!

Today is a hodge-podge of 3 topics — I have so much 2 tell u — I will do my best to cover all 3 topics:

TOPIC 1. I think I made a mistake.  I said in an earlier post the hatch was a fishfly — but I do not think they are big enough to eat a tadpole as ecnyclededia said fish fly do — and it said they last a week — but look at my drive after 30 hours —

p dead flysMany Dead ones.  I think, maybe, they are MayFlys   — So, I went 2 the web

Mayflies usually live for 24-72 hours. Don’t forget that they’ve already spent 1-2 years on the bottom of the lake as a nymph living burrowed in the mud. Within that three days, though, they manage to get into about everything you can imagine. You will find dead mayflies lying around on the sidewalks, in spider webs, on window ledges, etc. They’ll go anywhere where there’s light at night. Wear a white shirt outside at night and you’ll see what I mean.

TOPIC 2. FIRST CLASS TO STEERAGE – A DOG’S LIFE — Got this photo (digital art) of my ex-dog Dyna on trip between H’s cottage and home:

The phases of a dogs life -- Dyna used to have the passenger seat to herself, then it was the rear seat, then it was back to the third row seat, but now as cars get smaller and families grow, it is under the bike in the way-back -- guess running along behind the car is the next phase!

TOPIC 3. Yesterday’s trail was a special ride because our young friend got to take her first trail ride   — she will ride in 4th of july parade on our Island.  Maybe her Mom will send me photos of her to post here tomorrow. — or maybe I will get some photos today .  Pushed wrong button on iphone camera during the ride. Here are some photos of our get ready and finish — probably takes more to get ready then you think:

First we talk about the ride to be taken
First we talk about the ride to be taken
The we tell our horse we love them
Then we tell our horse we love them
Then we put on the horse protection from the big horse flies we find on trails around here this time of year

Then we curry and comb them
Then we curry and comb them

    Then we do pooper scoop
    Then we do pooper scoop

    I am ready --
Bridle, Saddle in place – I am ready and waiting

Helmets are a must for me --for my protection and to set example for folks new to horses

Helmet on, I am ready — Helmets are a must for me –for my protection and to set example for folks new to horses
Before we go back -- my people gave me a chance for a snack!
OOPS! not quite ready — Before we go — my people gave me a chance for a snack!

When all is done we must scratch our back -- do not tell Perla I took this un-lady like photo -- I think she would buck me off next time for sure!

When all riding is all done we must scratch our back — do not tell Perla I took this un-lady like photo — I think she would buck me off next time for sure!
Gee, it is good to rest -- even though i was not on todays ride!

Finally home on the front porch.

  • Good Morning — It is june 29, 2013 Saturday — BUT is that the same day as the rest of the world?

I received not a single answer to yesterday’s question — Come on folks — I want to know!

It is not even 9 am — but I will tell of this morning anyway.  We awoke to loud screaming of seagulls on from lawn — we knew what that meant — we had a hatch over night.  Guess i need to tell you what that means:

    They land on the windows
    They land on the windows
They land on the side of the house
They land on the side of the house

Thousands of these little critters emerge from the mud in the bottom of the Bay and float to the surface crawl out of their cocoon – spread their wings– and immediately get eaten by a jumping fish or seagull — or escape and land on our lawn, house or windows — do not stand still or they will land on you!

They come out of the mud in batches and they are called a FISHFLY — From Wikipedia:

In contrast to mayflies, which are small and live only 24 hours as adults, Fishflies are quite large, eat aquatic plants as well as smallish animals including vertebrates like minnows and tadpoles, and may live up to seven days as adults. Their entire lifespan is several years, but most of this time is spent as larvae.

Now to the botany  question: when corral was built last year — the surface was scrapped — this year it was covered with a very robust growth of weeds and grasses per this photo:cropped-dscn1117.jpg

I think the seeds were lying dormant for many years – including the seeds for this one which I found while mowing — It is on the endangered list in Ohio at least — My friend helped us identify it:  Can you identify it?stawberry blite 2

Well, l must go wash windows, paint barn, mow, weed, repair chairs, maybe put our little fishing boat into water, train Perla,  wash truck, much more I will not bore you with  — might not get it all done today or even by next month —  but I already did have a great breakfast — Grandma said I was to ask if any of you had the same things for breakfast — So did u? Oh what was it — Coffee, V8 Juice, and a banana split with walnuts, black cherry ice-cream and honey! Very good!

We shout to you all -- HAVE A FUN DAY!
